  • Knowing that the stone fish exists makes me a bit nervous to walk on the beach.

They're mostly reef creatures, stick to sandy beaches and stay away from rocky outcrops and you'll never see one.

Those are scary, but kinda cute, in their own special way.
Bioluminescent oceans are so beautiful. I can't believe it's all plankton.

You can buy dynoflagellates (bioluminescent plankton) in small globes if you are interested in experimenting with them.

Elephants mourn over the ones they lost (even some people). That's...resonant.

Not sure why people are still so surprised that wooow animals have feelings!!!

They can also suffer anxiety and depression and the whole range of mental health problems that humans have. Try ignoring your dog or cat for a couple of days and see what happens.

It's always worth remembering that what humans call "instinct" in animals is the same as what humans call "feelings" in other humans.
The Tasmanian Devil looks nothing like it's cartoon counterpart.

Tasmania recently managed to get a team in to our national football league, the AFL. They naturally named their team the Tasmanian Devils. Warner Brothers took them to court over the use of that name. It got thrown out of every court in Australia with Warner Brothers lawyers refusing to accept that there's a real animal called a Tasmanian Devil.

I reckon if there's enough money involved US lawyers would even deny that Tasmania exists and start demanding royalties for that name too. It's named for the Dutch navigator that found it in the 1600s - Able Tasman.
I love my neighbors' dogs (seriously they came up to me for some belly rubs), but I wish they would stay out of the trash.

So your neighbors are trashy bitches.

What can you do to make the trash more secure?
I generally have no problem with deer, but moose freaks me out.

    They are HUGE!

We have herds of giant elk. Never mess with an elk - neither you nor your car will survive.

But I love moose tracks. At least the ice cream.

Imagine the amount of damage hitting a deer does to the average car. Now imagine the size of a moose and hitting it with a car.
People think I'm weird for thinking owls are cute (they beat koalas in my book).

Owls are cool, Koalas are noisy smelly disease ridden pests that we have to regularly cull to prevent them from destroying their own habitats. People from around Sydney think they're an endangered species, but that's because Sydney is so polluted that native animals can't survive.

I once had the rare opportunity to watch a barn owl attack a nest of pigeons on the roof just above my apartment unit's living room window. Quickly reminding me that the owl is a bird of prey. Anything but "cute".

Why do Peruvian owls always appear in pairs? They’re Inca hoots.
Ever take one of those animal personality quizzes? Mine's an owl. Pretty fitting.

I wonder if it took into account that individuals within a species can have very different personalities. For instance, different cats I've met have been drastically different.🤔

I wonder if dogs can see in the dark like cats.

Nocturnal guardians. Your dog is ready to rip into any predator if it gets near. I love dogs in the night. Coyotes, wolves. I was good friends with a dingo. We had a half coyote pup for a minute, until he woke up one morning wild and went up to the mountain to join his father. A couple years ago, my daughter and I took a walk behind a coyote pup and his dam a few times on their nightly circuit.

We had a neighbor a few miles up the road. He had a pet dingo. The dingo didn't like a lot of people, but he'd let me come up to him and sit with him and give him scritches :)
