    I am drinking a 1 liter bottle of Mountain Dew right now. I am feeling like a failure because I caved into that instead of buying liquor. Ideally, I would not be drinking any garbage at all.

    Mountain Dew may have a lot of sugar/corn syrup, but IMO alcohol is FAR FAR WAY worse, especially with someone who has your history with alcohol. I would rather you drink a liter of Mountain Dew than a bottle of Makers Mark, for sure.

    Sometimes beating addiction starts with "harm reduction."

    A bottle of Mt. Dew is not the perfect solution, no. But, it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative.
    Sometimes, we have to take these things in stages.

    Your choice of soda over booze is something to celebrate, not something to tear yourself down for.

    I am feeling a profound sense of clinical depression. Knowing it is all chemical is helping me navigate through it without a sense of panic. I won't do anything stupid, but I will talk to my doctor very soon.

    He and Peter couldn't pass the ego of Gene Simmons. I figure Gene's obnoxious personality was just as toxic as Ace and Peter's drug use. Go figure.

    The bookkeeper at the office is jinxing my weight loss progress. She brought in Krispy Kreme donuts for everybody today. I had one and stopped there. They go great with black coffee.

    They failed in Australia, you see a couple around the place but they're not very popular and struggle to stay in business. They can't compete with Aussie bakeries that sell so much more than just donuts and soft drinks. Donuts were never really popular here to start with, like hotdogs, only kids like them.

    Being a drunken moron is not who I am. Escaping through a bottle is not who I am. Eating junk food and being a slob is not who I am. Damn my family for telling me I am who I am not. I can make my own healthy path without them.

    Get a blood test and have a look at the health of your liver.
    It puts you in overdrive in doing the right thing if you have a fatty one.
    A great incentive to turn your life habits around.

    One week sober as of today. I did an Instacart order for delivery later today, and I did my best to ignore the ads for beer and gin that they were pushing on me, seeing as I have ordered both of those things on Instacart in the past.

    It is a battle. Try clearing your cookies. And if it's on your phone you could also disable the audio permission on google and instacart 🤷‍♀️ just a thought might help. Keep the fight. I'm in a 4 day Tramadol kick and was an addict for 10 years. The fight is hard but keep going. ❤️

    The addictions we must stare down every day (like alcohol) might be the toughest ones. Don't rely on willpower... find tools to help you make sobriety last.

    I wish quitting alcohol did not come with as many side effects, and I wish I was not so stupid as to put myself through them all over again.

    Remember that cold turkey quitting alcohol can be dangerous if you were drinking enough. Unlike some other drugs, alcohol withdrawals can be actually dangerous. You probably know this, but please don't hesitate to seek medical advice here.

    Have you ever considered inpatient addiction treatment?
