    A bigger snowstorm came through last night, 17 February. This is about a half inch. More is coming in waves throughout the week, and it won't get much above freezing until Sunday. Fortunately I'm prepared.

    Bought seed potatoes for the garden. I'm gonna finally have a garden! Yay! I bought Red Pontiac spuds which is what my grandpa grew because they are hardy and can withstand temp extremes.

    Yep...same storm that came my way. First snow at the valley level of Reno. Already melting off. Need sunglasses indoors unless I close the shades...lol.

    You're in a desert and I'm not, so even though it gets really cold in Reno in winter, snow at the level of downtown Reno is relatively rare. I'm sure you've heard the stories about tourists being sold a winter getaway in "the warm desert of Reno" by crooked travel salesmen only to find themselves turning blue while in shorts and T shirts at the corner of Fourth and Virginia.

    I didn't know you were in an RV, buy a cheap tarp to tie over the top of it and save yourself a lot of stress.

    Well, it was built as a "toy hauler", which in the USA is a specialized RV used for hauling off road vehicles like all terrain hobbyist vehicles and go karts. Such RV's are usually empty inside, except for maybe some cabinets and occasionally a sleeping bunk.

    My trailer has a standard RV door and had a standard RV vent that leaked badly from the start due to vent hardware corrosion and the deterioration of the vent cover. More info here: Creating a tiny home from a 23' toy hauler RV

    A little rain here. Not much, just 0.6 inch, but since there is a big hole in my roof from where the vent was and my uncle's solution to cover it didn't really work out I woke up to a wet floor. I use aluminum baking pans and some buckets to catch it but my floor was still a mess. cont...

    Cheap (but tall) plastic buckets are good for this, and put a little bit of water in the bottom of the bucket to start with. This deadens the noise a bit and also makes the bucket harder to tip over if you stumble in to it in the middle of the night.

    @Judge it went to the south of me for the most part. The heaviest stuff went through Redding and then worked its way down to Reno.

    It's winter. When the weather is clear in winter it gets really cold here, like mid 20s F. So it can get to around 40 F inside. I have a kerosene space heater but it only heats the area around my bed, so I wear a jacket and slippers to use the computer at the other end of my house.

    When I was growing up this style of kerosene heater was very popular. Added bonus - you can keep a pot of tea or coffee hot on it too. You need ventilation for them though, need to leave a window or a door open a crack.

    Above the fog, 11 November. Fog in this area tends to settle at the bottom of the valleys and leave higher elevations in the sun or high clouds.

    The first real storm of the season has arrived in Jefferson (far north California). It has been raining here since 6am-it is 11am now. I have the buckets out collecting rainwater from the leak in the roof that is actually a leak in the opening that was originally an RV-style roof vent. That vent has always been an issue since I bought the trailer.

    I am getting closer to finding the source of the main leak in my roof. Tomorrow I will tear into the ceiling where I think it is. It is pouring rain outside right now.

    Trailer roofs leak. It's just a fact of life. Count yourself lucky you only have one. Usually there are three drip buckets per room. It is folly to rip into the ceiling during rainy season. Far more prudent would be to buy a tarp and anchor it down over the rooftop for the season. And to muffle the drip sounds with a cloth in the bottom of the bucket.

    This morning around 5am local time I sprayed nest killer in the pipe then watched the inside end (the end taped with paper and duck tape) to see how the wasps tried to escape. I caught 8 of them, and plugged the gaps in the cables the best I could with duck tape. The nest made a very LOUD buzzing sound for 15min until it finally died.

    You did it. My friend thanked me for going after her nest. She had a few hanging out, but she finally got them. And she thanked me for my help. So sweet.
