  • Well whaddya know, there is indeed a limit to just how much power I can get out of this PC. Generally fairly clear that I've gone too far when a single 2560x1440 fractal image needs a full hour to MAYBE render. I had to disable TDR just to make it even possible. Hopefully the accursed thing finishes without crashing.

A lot of those algorithms can definitely be optimized, but it's pretty intense. I suck at math, so I wouldn't be very good at that part :D
I've got to stop going onto the internet when depressed. It really doesnt help. I cant make progress on anything if I keep doing bloody stupid things that specifically make it much harder to do anything.
It's a good thing I dont have arachnophobia, there's just an astonishing amount of spiders out here. Walk outside to go water the plants, walk through 3 webs. Go to turn the water on, spiders on the handle. Grab the nozzle, get into position, spiders fall off of it. Turn around, another spider sorta Tarzan-swings past my face somehow. Some packages from Amazon on the porch, surprise, there's spiders on them.

@Rodafina Ya know, the close-up photos you often post are really rather amazing. Do you take them yourself?
    Rodafina
    Rodafina
@Misery, I am happy to hear that.

Yes, they are photos I have taken. Macro photography is a particular fascination of mine.

Got this today, my collection of odd plush dolls grows. This is the third really limited edition one out of the group. Glad I didnt miss out on the chance to get her. Her name is Jay, the thing she's holding is a skateboard, though it's hard to tell in this awkward lighting. This room isnt the best place to take photos.
Why is screen recording and video editing software so spectacularly irritating to use? Like seriously, this seems to be a universal trait of the whole process. And not a bit of it ever quite works correctly. Particularly OBS, I have a very deep loathing for that one.
    MildredHubble
    MildredHubble
Yup! OBS demands that I reset all of the parameters for my video sources every time or nothing works! And I swear it's different every time. All I want to do is get my microscope up on screen! 😾
"I should not have clicked on that" is something I find myself saying more and more in recent times.
I think I need a break from this place. For my own mental health. Seeya later.

Ya know I sat down with the intent to draw another character for practice. And then I did this instead. I'm not sure why.

We, alot of times, create things that are on our mind/heart. It just calls us. And there is a reason for it. Like anything in life. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense at first. I like drawing like that, myself. By letting my heart/mind guide me. Less stressful that way. There is more flow, just drawing as you go.

    Anyway. It's a very lovely drawing, @Misery
I realize recently just how much weight I lost... flat as a board, and a tendency to sort of collapse inward if leaning back or lying down. In that haze of depression, I had just... not entirely noticed that. I'm not about to try to regain it though. Learning much healthier eating recently. Turns out, some veggies and such can be darned good when prepared right.

So here's today's creation. This took 1/4th of the time the previous one did. Ya know, getting some real feedback while I was at the art tutoring place has really helped me with motivation and such. They particularly liked how I did the hair on the previous ones. I dont have a name for her yet.
I admire your creations and think they are fabulous!

Thanks! I've got a LOT more fractal art than what I've shown on this forum, look up the username ScrapFractals on DeviantArt if you want to see them (I dont know if I can just post a link here or not).

Well that was infuriating. I'm aware there's a slight misalignment there, but fixing something like that in a fractal is much more complicated than fixing normal digital art. I got it as close as I could without going mad.

    I can't see any misalignment

I can appreciate such frustration. The two parallel lines that span across the center horizontally do not match up beyond the center. With the right portion of the parallel lines appearing to be slightly further apart compared to the left portion. Other elements seem to be uneven in terms of left versus right axis as well. But with fractals being so anti-aliased, is absolute symmetry even possible?

Absolute symmetry within a final rendered image is tough to do, not just because of anti-aliasing, but also because of the camera, and the fact that many of these things exist in a 3D space even if they dont seem to (including this one). Though in this case, it's because in attempting to force symmetry, I spun something around when I should have spun AND flipped it. Just mangled it instead.
So, small positive update, my weight stabilized finally after my mood improved and I started eating properly again. In total I lost 38 pounds. I mean, I had kinda wanted to lose some, but... not like that. I've gotten used to really not eating much though, so eating enough to stay stable is a challenge.

Holy freaking heck I thought the PC was going to explode while rendering this. The mouse cursor lags 2 seconds behind and just blinks all over the place, the keyboard barely works at all, and at one point it took like a full 20 seconds for a click to register. No matter how powerful my PC is, it's never enough.
Okay, note to self: dont try to fight my spinning sleep cycle. I tried to break it. This turned out to not be one of my better ideas. It made sense at the time.

Did you make it? Looks awesome. If animated could be the final boss of a rpg game (like in Chaos in Aria of Sorrow, or Giygas in Earthbound).

@Trophonius Yep, I make all of these. I do actually intend on using them in a game design, though fractal animation is very difficult and extremely resource intensive.
I dont get why I can use horribly complicated, esoteric fractal apps with UIs designed by maniacs, and work with them with ease, but if I try to use any standard image editing app (whether it's Photoshop or, you know, anything else) I get lost and frustrated within like 20 seconds. Must calm down, dont stab anything...
The less I engage with the internet as a whole, the more I'm wondering why in the world I ever spent so much time doing so in the first place. None of it is a good time, nor is it accomplishing anything at all. Going to just yank this cable out for awhile, see how that feels.

As much bad news as there is, and worse people, I hope you enjoy going out rambling a bit in the weather and meeting folks face to face. A book by Cal Newport, Digital Minimalism, would probably be a good read for you right around now.

I recommend it. I go thru phases of being totally unplugged. It refreshes my spirit & perspective on the world & humanity. It's good to take breaks & see only thru your own eyes/ perspective & leave behind the lens of the internet & media. The only voice that comes to your mind is your own & you can just BE. I hope you have fun exploring in the winter wonderland outdoors :)

Got this today. I'd been trying to find this for a few months now, it's a very recent release, very popular, and hard to find. I wasnt expecting it to arrive for another couple of weeks yet. It's also very heavy.

My friend Anna loves board games and would love that. If so I will show her the picture to see if she knows it.
