    They refer to their behaviors as addictions. They feel compelled to pursue the behavior. Occasionally factual input (for example: *you're poisoning yourself*) results in the person stopping. Not necessarily though.

    Sometimes the person's friends advise going to a doctor to gain information regarding the safety of their habits. Like whether it's a good plan to chew on your baby's peed diapers. Or to use bees to sting yourself 30+ times a day. Or eat all the foam rubber stuffing from your couch. Sometimes...

    Oh. I thought this was going to be about the kind of addictions on that t.v. show, My Strange Addiction. Things like drinking nail polish, eating toilet paper (or rocks, sand, cat food), falling in love with inflatable swim toys, marrying your car...... Stuff like that.
