Useful Apps for Kids with Autism?

My wife and I purchased Amazon Fire kids tablets. They have a small monthly fee, which is included for the first year, so our son has access to all kinds of apps. He can scroll through a list of apps and tap on one that looks interesting, it will download, and then he can give it a try. We also...

Parents of kids with Autism - How do you connect with your kids through games and play?

When I think about learning resources for autistic children, I think one issue is the need to be adaptive...autism education is not so much "one size fits all" like educating typical children. For my son, he has never shown much interest in anything other than flashcards, and then YouTube, and...

    Flat affect?

Perhaps off-topic, but my young son has a flat affect most of the time. He gets happy on a swing sometimes, or when the wind hits his face, but mostly playing his tablet. When he is presented with things that typical children get excited about, his face is expressionless.

    The Symmetry of Autism

I struggle with these types of things with my son. He is the sweetest little pea, as quiet as can be, and when things sync up for him, I get to find out that he has stuff going on inside that head of his. On the other side, I worry about his future. He doesn't talk, doesn't notice people...

Why is self improvement SO taxing?

I wouldn't get too down on yourself just yet. Your post was well composed and coherent, that puts you a step ahead of a lot of people. In my 20's I flunked out of college and later lost the only good job I ever had after I got injured, and then lost my longtime girlfriend to a more...

    Autistic YouTube Creator

Thank you for posting this, I am going to check out these videos this week. I have posted some videos on YouTube on my son with autism and I am always interested to learn and see what others have put together. I am really concerned about my son's ability to be self-sufficient in the future. I...

Aspire husband clueless about boundaries with other single women

My opinion is that the lady is being inappropriate, and I don't think he should be engaging in social activities with her. I know that my wife would be unhappy in your situation, and I do not wish to make my wife unhappy, nor do I wish to hang out with someone that may have inappropriate intentions.

    CBD Oil

I have purchased some liquid from Amazon a few times. I am trying it on myself with that thoughts of possibly trying it on my son with autism. I would like to see more studies on it before I give it to my son. For myself, I do feel like it helps anxiety, sleeping, and chronic pain, but I have...

Why is Thomas the Tank Engine so popular with Autistic Children?

My little fellow has his phases with Thomas, like his other interests. For awhile he wanted to watch Misty Island Rescue followed by Day of the Diesels back to back. Then he loved the songs/music videos after the credits, then he loved the sing-along where the cloud bounced on the words...he...

I'll never be what my parents want me to be.

Hello there! I played an inordinate amount of WoW and I loved being in that world...hundreds of days played on my timer. I don't play anymore, sometimes I miss it, but not often. I have a son with autism and two other children and they keep me busy. It took me forever to get my bachelor's...

Do movie theaters in your area offer sensory showings?

Hehe, of course. ;) I have been really curious about this because it is something that has gone from bust to boom in my area in the last few years and I wanted to know if others had similar experiences...or even different options. There haven't been too many responses so perhaps it isn't that...

Do movie theaters in your area offer sensory showings?

(Insert miscellaneous Midwestern rural area here) Our little fellow loves to go on car rides and look out the window so we will drive to various different towns and movie theaters when they have sensory showings. From my experience, you have to seek out the sensory showings, either on the...

Do movie theaters in your area offer sensory showings?

Yes, the lights only dim a little so that anyone can safely roam, the sound is softer, outside food is allowed, and viewers can make noise and move around. There are usually ushers in the theater to provide assistance, sometimes the manager or special-needs-advocate will speak to the audience...

Do movie theaters in your area offer sensory showings?

One thing that has really changed in my area is that almost every movie theater now offers sensory showings of the major movies. This wasn't the case a few years ago, and we also saw the theatrical play for The Lion King as a sensory showing last year. When we first started going to the sensory...

Hello, I am a father that is always trying to learn more.

Haha, thank you! One Halloween my daughter dressed up as a duck, she was around 4-years-old, and we were at a busy Halloween event. We had to walk single-file to get through the place, so my wife lead, my daughter in the middle, and I was last. Well I almost tripped over my daughter several...
