    Autism and Entrepreneurship

Year 1 after High School he went to a reputable Art school, lived in dorms etc. Epic fail, he didn't get to most of his classes and when he did, he didn't do the work required to pass. $30,000 later. Year 2 he went to local community college and took 2 online courses, both failed and 2 campus...

How Do I Help My Young Adult Son????

Vanilla, My biggest fear is him not being able to "be on his own" and yet I can't bring myself to dish out "school of hard knocks". Especially when I know that he like all/most Aspies processes things differently. We had an occupational therapist who was going to start working with him on "life"...

    Obsessive Spending

Flower44590, I have taught him the envelope system. He makes daily tips in cash which worked out perfectly until he started leaving his wads of money around the house. That is when I took it upon myself to get it in the bank for him, he has a checking and savings and I just deposit it. I do that...

How Do I Help My Young Adult Son????

I am a mother of a 20 year old son with Asperger’s. Finding help is like finding a needle in a haystack. Anyway, we have a dilemma coming up and we, (My husband, myself and our son) don’t know what to do. We are retired military so until he turns 21 he is considered a dependent with all...

    Obsessive Spending

I am blessed so far to be able to manage my son's money, I have his "pockets" set up and he has access to all his money, but he knows that whatever is in checking he can have and blow, because I just take his rent and expenses out for him. Am I a bad mother?

    Parental Acceptance Struggle with Aspergers

Ben28, As a mom of a 20 year old Aspie's son. I have accepted him, fought for him, cheered for him, and am still crying for him. As for his father, I don't think it's as much "acceptance" as it is sadness. Depending on their personality it comes out in strange ways. I am not excusing those...

What Do I Say To My Son About Testing?

As a mom of a 20 year old Aspies son, who was diagnosed at 16 and an 18 year old daughter. Aspies or not, I believe in honesty. I have never lied to my kids. As they asked questions in life I gave them age appropriate answers. I still have a solid honest relationship with both. My advice is be...

    I'm Theresa

Thank You Sander! I live day by day trying to look at his small accomplishments. Because he was diagnosed so late the he was already set in his ways and harder to gear toward new idea's. There is SO much out there to "READ" and as I have ADD, my attention span is very small. I need the condensed...

    Insomnia...

As a mom who "folded" and listened to the doctors for my son's entire childhood. My opinion is find a doctor that will work with you, one that is on your side and will help you through some of your issues, like your insomnia. I wish I had been more proactive earlier.:(
