    Higher empathy for animals?

As I've already stated in this thread, I do have a higher empathy for animals and still work in animal rescue organizations. Both domestic and wildlife. I do have two dogs who I love to bits, but I also treat them like dogs not humans and hate to see people who do ruin them by treating them like...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

No it's not discussed much yet but I think that will change as more becomes known about it. There is not even diagnostic criteria under the DSMV so I guess people will be reluctant to put much emphasis on something that can't be officially diagnosed. Hopefully that will not be too long coming...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

The problem is that my mother CAN and does still hurt me. Just when I think there's nothing else she can say, she finds something new. This just immediately plunges me back into past experiences and trauma. My stomach churns just at the thought of seeing her because I never know what's coming...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

I try not to dwell on it but my life is also littered with bad relationship choices and lost friendships. As well as projects I had to abandon when the stress became too intense. Sometimes it's hard not to feel cheated. I just hope I can learn some healing techniques and salvage something...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

If I had realised what I was dealing with 20 or 30 years ago I would have walked away then, but I only became aware about 5 years ago. It was just too late when she was nearly 90. But I agree that no contact is the best option if at all possible.

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

There have been times when I have self medicated with drugs and alcohol, but like you I need to feel in control so it was never to a serious extent or for a prolonged period. I truly wish I could have no contact with my mother, but she is nearly 95 and I have recently had to find her a nursing...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

Interesting, because my late diagnosis with Aspergers I now wonder if it could have been C-PTSD. Things like feeling 'different' and actively isolating myself from others. Not being comfortable with unexpected events. Being very intense and worried about the state of the world etc. Sometimes...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

I don't recall specific bullying at school, but I certainly struggled to make friends and always felt 'different' to other kids.

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

As I mentioned, recognising C-PTSD as a separate diagnosis is a relatively recent phenomenon. However it is my understanding that there is a significant amount of research being done in this area. I feel that it will likely result in at least partially explaining some of the problems...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

I think the main difference between PTSD and C-PTSD is that PTSD usually relates to one major trauma (or experience such as war) which is sustained as an adult and usually shows itself relatively quickly afterward. C-PTSD usually occurred in early childhood which actually shaped and changed...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

The only reason I feel correct diagnosis is important is that treatment may sometimes trigger or exacerbate some of the problems if not correctly diagnosed. I have read that BPD is often misdiagnosed when C-PTSD is more likely to be the case. Some people are uncomfortable with being labelled...

Is there a link between Complex PTSD and Autism

Hi all I have recently been under a prolonged period of sustained stress which has left me almost unable to function. In the process of trying to get some relief from this pressure I have been doing more research on the major symptoms which are currently crippling me. Someone suggested I might...

Feeling drained and ashamed, anxiety wins again...

Yes I always feel absolutely wiped out for at least 24 hours or maybe longer. All you can do is be kind to yourself and try to do whatever works for you. Music, movie, sleep, read, dance, paint or worst case take a Valium. These are some of the things I do to try and get back my equilibrium...

Why do you do things that send you into meltdown?

I'm hoping someone else will be there, but that is by no means a certainty. If not I'm trying to think of an excuse not to go. I really don't think I can face it! It's not that Christmas is a particularly bad time, it's always a bad time. I stay away as much as possible. Even a phone call is a...

Why do you do things that send you into meltdown?

Good question! Right now I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out what to do Christmas day. Usually my brother and his wife and child come which keeps my narcissist mother's behavior under control. But they're not coming this year. My mother wants me to come to her for lunch but I know...
