    Crossroads / Alone vs Company

I am in pretty much exactly the same situation (I was only recently diagnosed as well), except that I don't have knowledge of anything that other people find interesting, as you do with football, so there's no opportunity for me to interact there. I don't think it's possible to change...

Suggestion related to "New Threads" area to the right of the page

OK, I'm posting one last time, just because I don't think you understand what I am suggesting. I am not saying that I am suggesting the formation of a new area with its own maintenance or anything like that. I don't know how you got that impression. All I am suggesting is that the new threads...

    Crossroads / Alone vs Company

I read your post with great interest, as I have also recently come to a crossroads in my life. Don't worry about the long post. Lots of people here (including me) make lengthy posts. What makes it ok is that it's not full of typos, spelling mistakes, and grammatical errors which characterises...

Suggestion related to "New Threads" area to the right of the page

Not utterly different, but just different enough that they deserve their own category, like aspies compared with NTs, perhaps? :) After the news-related threads are created, they'd be maintained like any other thread, just as they are now. I guess the main thing is just how they are displayed...

Suggestion related to "New Threads" area to the right of the page

This is indeed so, but the issue is that several news items are often posted in that area all at once, thus removing possibly as yet unread threads from the "queue." I realize that, but since one would need to go into several sub-levels in the forum to find all the new threads, some of them are...

Young man with Asperger's 'asked by B&M to work for FREE for three days before being dumped'

They should pay people for trial shifts. Craig was led to believe that he was working for free temporarily but that he would be employed after that. I have no doubt that he was tricked into it, and that he was effectively under a verbal contract, but since he doesn't have proof of what he had...

From sexual harassment to hostile colleagues: readers' experiences of life with a disability

Ugh.... Just, ugh. These are probably the same people who wouldn't hesitate to take the disabled parking space themselves if they weren't afraid of being judged by others. Don't they have license plate stickers for that? They do in North America. I can definitely identify with this one. Every...

Suggestion related to "New Threads" area to the right of the page

I think the "New Threads" area is extremely useful, and I use that to do most of my navigating on the site. However, there is an issue that someone else brought up recently that when articles autism-related news are posted as new threads, such threads tend to occupy most of the space allocated...

Regular Schooling May Harm Autistic Kids

Schools make autistic pupils feel isolated, report warns You posted it yourself. Is that not the same study? It has a lot of findings in common, e.g.: From the article in this thread: Sensory sensitivity, which is a common characteristic of autism and can magnify sounds to an intolerable...

Young man with Asperger's 'asked by B&M to work for FREE for three days before being dumped'

That bill (and I think it nothing less than a tragedy that it had to be implemented as recently as only 2 years ago) concerns trafficking and prostitution, but coercing someone to work for free, even without any notion of ownership of that person, comes pretty close to the definition of slavery...

Nationals senator Barry O'Sullivan urged to apologise over 'autistic' banks comment

Don't people on the spectrum tend to follow laws better than others? His comment doesn't even make any sense.

Stressed. Which job do I take?!

I think you should apply for all the available positions which interest you and then you'll be able to choose what you want to do from those that are offered to you. Only you can really decide what you want to do. Write down your possible schedule for the week and see whether you will have...

Autistic weightlifter Martyn hopes to inspire others

It's nice to see a story about people on the spectrum competing and doing well in a mainstream competition. It reminds us all that people on the spectrum can do just as well as NTs, and it's something we should all keep in mind in our own lives.

Regular Schooling May Harm Autistic Kids

Wasn't there a post last week about this same study, or did the government fund a second study that was basically the same and reached exactly the same conclusion?

Young man with Asperger's 'asked by B&M to work for FREE for three days before being dumped'

I bet that B&M and other employers could maintain a nearly completely unpaid workforce just from the hundreds of job applicants they put on unpaid "trial" shifts. I must say that I am truly surprised that slave labour is legal in the UK.
