Do those symptoms sound like ASD?

I'm not sure, but I have the same feeling with my Dad, he's eaten off of the same fork for over 40 years, follows the same routine every day, sits in the same seat, has his 'special interest' - politics, which he rants about constantly and doesn't seem to understand no one cares! He has zero...

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

I think your post ended up caught in the crossfire of my general irritation about people stereotyping NT's. So, apologies for the confusion. Social misunderstandings are clearly not limited to the Aspie world after all! :D Don't worry, I'm too busy mindlessly flicking through Facebook, tweeting...

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

Maybe it was his humour, everything gets lost in translation for an NT online. Without the body language, facial expressions and tone of voice, it's really hard to decipher meaning. I kind of imagine that's what it's like being Aspie, but all the time. Am I wrong?

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

You spelt 'arguing' wrong, does that mean you're actually an NT in disguise?! :D By the way, I'm teasing you, I think you should be more open to us NT's, honestly some of us are quite nice. :)

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

Haha I'm typing this on my phone and I don't have my glasses on, so apologies for the error. It does undermine my argument somewhat!! :D Though personally I judge someone as an individual and by their actions. It seems very one dimensional to dismiss another person based on their inability to...

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

I think your hypothetical question became lost somewhere in between the bittterness and the stereotyping. It was nice to hear lots of people are happy being Aspie, we should all be celebrating diversity and not drawing negative comparison. All seems very counterproductive to me.

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

I'm not on Facebook, I don't go to the cinema, I punctuate all my sentences correctly and I don't write in capital letters. The person you're describing is a moron, not an NT. Though you'll probably say that's one and the same thing. I have no idea where your narrow view of NT's comes from...

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

I'm NT and I completely disagree with this sweeping generalisation. There seems to be much 'NT bashing' taking place on this post (not necessarily from this particular post), it makes me wonder, if any of you came across something similar about autistics, what would you think? Would you think it...

Help Needed - High Functioning Autism in Girls Parents View

Emerging research suggests the ratio is closer to 2:1, though that may change as time goes on. There is some neuroscience research which suggests there are genetic factors which protect females from autism, so I'm not sure if the ratio will be closer to 1:1, I guess thats's something time will...

Help Needed - High Functioning Autism in Girls Parents View

I've read exactly the same things, there is some research around this, but there isn't enough at the moment to say there is a specific way Aspergers manifests in females. Which is a shame, unless this happens, diagnostic criteria won't change and women will continue to be missed or misdiagnosed...

Help Needed - High Functioning Autism in Girls Parents View

I'm so sorry to hear of your experience, it genuinely saddens me to hear of such ignorance and poor treatment, it's awful the Dr wouldn't take you seriously and can totally understand your feeling about Drs! In my experience, not all Drs are the same and I hope you can find the courage to face...

Help Needed - High Functioning Autism in Girls Parents View

I think you raise some really valid and interesting points. Especially about the effect hiding ASD has on a persons mental state, I certainly have seen my friend increasing suffer from mental health difficulties. I guess the pressure to conform becomes to much. It isn't helped by a lack of...

Help Needed - High Functioning Autism in Girls Parents View

My friend who is Aspie is much the same, she has a real sense of justice and I've seen her cry over a homeless man in the street. She was the only person not to walk past him when he'd passed out in the road, no one else paid attention. She said she couldn't bear to leave him.
