    I Am Not Understood...

Lol - do I fully understand myself? I'm not good at all with filtering or hiding so how I present is how I am. I've found some people like that - they don't have to worry if I have another side to me or something hidden. So I think I am probably easy to get to know. On the deepest level...not...

    Difficulty working full-time

Yes, age certainly doesn't help. But this has been a problem my entire life. As a child, it took me much longer than average to complete homework. There were a few times that I spent the entire time after school until bedtime trying to get it done and still hadn't finished. A few times my...

    Difficulty working full-time

My brain starts getting like mud after a few hours. If I push it, my brain gets so muddy that I can't pull information out, make decisions or make sense of what people are saying. It is like shutdown.

    Difficulty working full-time

As much as I wanted to, I was never successful at working full-time. It was simply too mentally exhausting. So I worked half-time for a number of years. It is hard to make peace with my lack of productivity. My few friends have all worked full-time.

Thank you! I will give that a try. I have no problem looking at bird faces, cow faces, lizard faces...

Can't stand psychologist's face in middle of screen during Zoom meeting

Well this is embarrassing...I don't know how to shrink the window and move it so it didn't occur to me that I could. I will see if I can figure it out because it is a really good idea. And I just love the pidgeon costume - lol - I would probably get an additional diagnosis if I requested the...

Can't stand psychologist's face in middle of screen during Zoom meeting

I know - how weird. I am only comfortable if he is in the bottom left corner of my screen. That way I can just look at the painting in the background instead of his face. When he gets in the center of the screen, it makes me start to panic. And I think he is trying to slowly get out of the...

Grateful no questionnaires in my diagnosis

I wonder how the diagnostic interview and paperwork varies from location to location. Maybe the shorter the interview period, the more paperwork there is.

Grateful no questionnaires in my diagnosis

I was seeing a psychologist for stress issues and got my autism diagnosis after he saw me weekly for a couple of months. It allowed me time to just randomly come up with things in session that annoyed me - like how I don't like the tactile sensation of changing clothes or sensation of taking a...

Grateful no questionnaires in my diagnosis

Seems like quite a few people have had a lot of paperwork to do to get diagnosed - form after form with questions. That would have driven me nuts. Wouldn't it seem that simply meeting with a person a few times should provide enough info? Just glad I didn't have to go thru the paperwork...

Didn't think to ask a friend to my wedding

I know this must sound bizarre but I didn't ask any friends to my wedding. My fiancee asked a couple of his friends and I did know them casually but they were his close friends, not mine. This is hard to explain. It is not that I didn't want to ask a friend to come. It is not that I thought of...

Psychologist surprised I didn't know I was Autistic

My psychologist seemed to have a hard time understanding that I didn't know I was Autistic. Well for one thing, I am 69 and there was very different criteria when I was a child. And the second is that as an adult I was labeled ADHD (after my daughter). So every difficulty I would just ascribe to...

How would you appear if not masked in public?

It wasn't until I was in my 60s that I first tried to initiate a frienship. I asked someone if they would like to join me for lunch. That was something I had never done before - had never thought of doing before. And there was a few years back when a woman asked me to join her on a trip to a...
