I am using myself as an object of study because I think that I will learn
how to do better the things that I want to do.

Using myself as an object of study is similar to when visual artists make
self portraits. They observe themselves, record what they see, and in the
process, presumably improve their skills at representation.

Sometimes I wish I were doing a topic
of general/broad interest because then I might have
the gratification of other people viewing what I write about.

Since I am observing myself for my benefit, trying to figure out what appeals
to other people merely to get 'views' isn't my goal. On the other hand,
knowing what appeals to other people, writing about it, and having it
read by other people would be a satisfying experience if the topics were
those that interested me.

For instance, I wouldn't be pleased to gain a large group of readers if I had to
do so by writing pornography or analyzing maps.
