Today I let my dog meet a tiny daschund up close. It was a teeny tiny dog that lives in our neighborhood, and was being walked by her owner. I could tell she was nervous and unstable, but my dog wanted so much to meet her, and I could tell he was in a good frame of mind, so I let him do so.
They sniffed each other up close. Then, she startled snarling and biting at him. If she'd been a bigger dog, it would have led to a fight; but he kept calm, and remained friendly and interested in her.
I pulled him away, however, as I didn't want her to hurt him.

Her owner asked what kind of a dog was he, for she didn't know just by looking at him. I told her. She became shocked that her dog had tried to attack a pitbull. There was something mildly humorous in observing her reaction.

Well, on select occasions you can always tell them you have a Staffordshire Terrier. ;)
