The Place is or will be quite large. Somebody calculated the size across it one time from stuff I told them about it. They said it must be at least 600 miles across it. I don't really have a concept of how big that is. It just seems big.
There are two main parts of The Place. One is the town and the agricultural area around it. The other is a kind of wilderness area. People live in the wilderness areas also, but a lot less of them. Some of the people living in the wilderness areas have homes built that they live in and some of them move around most of the time. It can be hard to find the wilderness area people.
People who are not Members of The Place may think that people in the town area are hard to find. They can walk right through the town without seeing any signs of a town. The town is not invisible, but you have to sort of look for it. Most of the buildings blend in with the landscape, so they are not obvious. I have not Seen many of the buildings on The Place, but assume that some must be like Mike Oehler's underground or earth-sheltered homes, or Earthships or PAH types.
Two of the buildings that I have seen much of are a geodesic dome and a combination greenhouse and worship building.
The geodesic dome is tall and has a sort of walkway around the top that connects to a short bridge to an adjacent cliff top. This geodesic dome is one of the first buildings completed or the first. It's first use is to house children at night. Low floors extend from a spiral stairway and you can see little feet all around the stairs at night.
Later, the short floors are removed. A large macrame sculpture hangs near the stairs and it is usually adorned with children who like to play on it or sit in it or lie in it.
Behind the geodesic dome is a room cut into the cliff. A laundry room is in the area closest to the door, but I think it is much larger than just the laundry area.
The worship/greenhouse building has sort of wings that open up to enlarge the space so more people can participate. Vines and other sorts of plants grow all over the glass areas. It gives it a mystical feeling and blurs the differences between outside and inside.
There are different sorts of baptismal accommodations. One is a small pool where people can be dunked and an altar of sorts is made of rock. Water flows from the rock. There is no spigot or other hardware visible. There is a basin below the stream of water. The water flows into the basin and then into a channel in the floor to the pool and outside.
I have Seen part of a worship service. It is interdenominational and includes various musicians. One is a sax player, a base fiddle, large harp, piano and other stringed instruments and percussion. I believe the selection of instruments and musicians varies.
An incident that I have Seen on The Place puzzles me. There is an enormous corn field. The corn field covers hillsides off into the distance. The corn is taller than a tall man. People are sitting around near the edge of the corn field when a police car speeds into sight and skids to a stop. A law officer with a wide flat-brimmed hat gets out. He walks to where several people are sitting and asks them where some person is. The people point to the corn field and say the person sought by the lawman is in the corn. The lawman looks at the cornfield and his face falls. He doesn't say anything. He just stares glumly at the cornfield for a minute and then gets back into his car and drives off. The people by the cornfield burst into laughter and almost hurt themselves laughing.
About the same thing happens when other people ask where someone is and are told they are in the corn. I do not see what is so funny. I also do not see why it was necessary for me to see so much about the matter. Some people laugh when I tell them about this. I have asked why and they seem to think it makes sense.
I have seen a time on The Place when bad things are happening outside The Place. People are walking past The Place on their way somewhere. They seem to be in pretty bad shape and are hungry and tired, but do not seem to want to stop. They seem afraid.
The Members vote on giving the passersby food and how much to give them. The people take the food, but do not even stop to eat it. They carry it with them and keep walking.
I will write more later.
