My hypothesis about spiritual gifts undergoes constant changes as I get new information about them. I find the subject fascinating and like to keep learning more about them. Helping other people discover and learn about their own spiritual gifts is probably my main spiritual gift, so that explains my interest in them.
Most Christian churches accept the existence of some spiritual gifts, but not usually the same ones. Some Christian churches accept only a few, while others don't place a limit on how many there are. Non-Christians may have other names for spiritual gifts, but they generally seem to accept their existence more readily than many Christians.
I think we all have spiritual gifts, regardless of whether we admit they exist or how many we think there are. Some people seem to have many well-developed spiritual gifts, while others do not display any. Choice seems to play a large part in the development of spiritual gifts. People who say that spiritual gifts do not exist are much less likely than average to be using their own spiritul gifts.
I have written about spiritual gifts before on a blog on another site. One of the spirtual gifts that turned out to be somewhat controversial, to my surprise, was music. Some Christians do not accept music as one of the spiritual gifts. This seems strange to me since the Bible is so full of references to music. The frequency of a particular subject recurring in the Bible is usually a good indication of how important that subject is to the Creator. There are even many instances where inanimate objects are said to make music.
When I read about how scientists have discovered that different elements have characteristic vibrations, I felt sure this was presaged by many different religions. Some that came to mind were, Reiki, Chi Gong, healing vibrations like Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, crystals, shamanic and other drumming, etc.
Science is a wonderful tool to explore the mind of the Creator. You can come to know an artist by studying their art. A look at a sunrise or sunset over the ocean leaves no doubt that their Creator is an artist.
I have attended more than one class on Spiritual Gifts, in more than one church. One class informed me that we have talents and Spiritual Gifts and they are not the same. I accepted that idea at the time, but have come to differ with it since. There may be a difference between talents and Spiritual Gifts, but if so, they segue into each other imperceptively.
Not everyone in a particular field of work is equal to everyone else in that field. I think that if there is a separation between a talent and a spiritual gift, the talent is on the mediocre end and the Spiritual gift is on the spectacular excellence end.
My opinion on the talent versus Spiritual Gift divide is that there is no divide. The difference between the mediocre and excellent in a field of endeavor is more of a poorly developed Spiritual Gift and a well developed Spiritual Gift.
