For Those Who Settle by Sherry Skalandis

A guy can be attracted to women
And still hate women.
A woman can be attracted to a man
And still hate men.
A person can be attracted to someone
And want to be with them
And want to have sex with them
And not respect them
And not love them
It?s sad really

Because he or she will stay
Even if they aren?t respected
Even if they aren?t loved
Even if they are hated.
Because they think it is their fault
Because they were ugly
Because they were fat
Because they nagged too much
Because they didn?t keep the house clean enough
Because they weren?t respectable
Because they weren?t lovable
Because they weren?t good enough

I tell them they deserve something wonderful
And that they won?t find it, if they settle for less.
But then they say he?s not that bad
Or she?s not that bad
That he or she really does them
That he or she really can be sweet
And can be nice
And feels really bad

I tell them I used think I didn?t deserve something wonderful
That I would never find anyone who loved and respected me
I look at them and am so grateful that I was wrong.
