Given that locality, I'd ask one question. If such a ban was intended to discourage gang members from "weaponizing" this particular breed of dog. My understanding is that most of Chicago's astounding homicide rate is directly connected to gang violence.


That said, with so many criminals in Chicago possessing firearms in a jurisdiction with strict gun control, would they really bother with training a pitbull to attack? Sounds like a pretty thin argument even if this their primary consideration. But public desperation can drive some strange propositions.


However if considerations of gangs weaponizing this breed is not the case, then it's just one more bit of unnecessary hysteria on the part of a dog-ignorant public.
