One of the many intentions for AutHaven was to provide more comfortable "Autistic space" than is generally found in the NT world.
We decided that we needed a place that was fairly quiet, had no nasty fluorescent lights, and was situated in the midst of great natural beauty.We also needed internet access, plenty of room for activies and presentations, and access to a fully equipped kitchen,as catering was not in our budget, So, we rented out the majority of a nudist resort in Colorado.
In addition to everything listed above, there was a relaxing hot tub, a sauna, 10 miles of trails, free pinball and pool tables,pingpong, and a great sound system.
We elected to incorporate "autistic applause" rather than loud hand clapping and everyone had their own "meltdown" plan.
We also utilized "interaction badges,," For those of you who do not know,these simple badges send a message to others what,if any sociail interaction you are open to at the moment.
There were several other plans that I was not able to explain at the time because, during AutHaven, my dear sweet husband had a heart attack. But that is something I can post about at another time.
