There is a problem in the presentation of dog-caused deaths.
What is the problem?
There is simply not enough detail given in the stories as they are presented to the public.. Not enough detail. This is a problem, because so much could potentially be learned from such occurrences.
The good news is, even the parts of the stories that are public knowledge contain enough info to teach us something.
Unfortunately, these various details are often ignored.
The discussion usually centers around breed, to the exclusion of all else. If the dog is a pitbull, the discussion is about how pitbulls are or aren't vicious. If the dog is of a breed other than a pitbull, the discussion consists of pitbull advocates saying "see, non pitbull breeds can be dangerous" and pitbull haters saying "that dog acted just like a pitbull." Hey, breed is something worth talking about. But it is not the only thing. Not at all.
So, I am going to write a series of entries in which I focus on what can be deduced from dog-caused deaths. These entries will mention but not focus on breed, as their whole point will be to bring other important-yet-ignored factors to light.
