Yeah, I know it's been a while since I posted anything here, and even longer since I posted on WP. But I thought that this event and the comments about it are worth putting my Cr0.02 in.
While I kept my account there open, I refused to post or comment on anything for the last couple of years due to the nationalistic backlash against me from certain members no matter what I said.
Otherwise, the error I keep getting is 522 -- "Connection Timed Out". It happens when Cloudflare is unable to establish a connection with the origin server, typically due to the server being overloaded, offline, or misconfigured. This has been going on since 2026-02-28.
Maybe Alex will take this opportunity to upgrade the software that drives WP.

Alex posted a cryptic message the day before the site went down. Apparently the server that hosts wrong planet jacked up their charges. He and his business partner were not sure (given the already low traffic) whether it was financially feasible to continue to run the site anymore. Next day it went offline.

Yes I have been a member from 2011-2026 and seen people come and go. In the early days the site was plagued by right wing trolls, one even became a moderator. Following trump's victory in 2016 either Alex or the other mods had enough and started banning many of these right wing trolls. From 2018 the site became a haven for progressive, left wing politics but COVID attracted some MAGA/qanon types back to the site.

This site is becoming quite right-wing too. A lot of harmful content is being tolerated and I'm slowly leaving, honestly. Moderators fail to take responsibility for what is being posted and act as if someone posting about violence is fine, but someone outraged at something sick, convoluted or harmful and outrageous is "making fuss" and silence the victims, not the perptrators. This is called "blame shifting". Maybe they see it as "woke agenda", which is defilitely right-wing. Just look how religious (often in a bad way) and conservative this site is recently

WP is now left-wing oriented.
I would be surprised if he invested significant capital in the website.
My understanding is that it will reassert itself.
There was some talk about a private server/computer hosting temporarily.
There is some concern that this might cause a very slow service, however.
In terms of content, this site is fairly close to "2005 center-moderate". Which is the best place to be if you want as many active participants as possible.
In terms of "safe-spaces" and "protected speech", it's somewhat "progressive left", but not far- or extreme- progressive left. That's an understandable place to be given that ASD's are more likely to be on "the other spectrum", but not completely fair to the much larger group of "invisible XY's".
All in all though, a sign of a good compromise is that all sides are slightly but equally unhappy with it /lol.
IMO AF isn't too far from socio-politically optimal given the zeitgeist (**).

Zeitgeist is another German word like Schadenfreude that's so good it should have been in English all along.
It can easily be literally translated into English, but then you just feel uncomfortable that we don't have our own word for it.

There was a mini revolution, and it was decided to add new mods and an actual admin (Alex was virtually never there).
At first, there was a belief that a more politically egalitarian structure had been created, but that didn't last.
It became clear that there was little tolerance for anything other than politically left-leaning content.
This realisation was the catalyst for the creation of a new autistic website called "Neurovoice", from memory.
Most of the conservatives and centrists left and either went to the new website or drifted off into the void.
Today, the political left has decisively claimed WP.

to be fair to Cornflake, the site is huge and he's only one moderator. Difficult site to police and some level of free speech (within limits) permits open and honest interaction.

I see it as having a mix of opinions.
If you are referring to that particular thread, you have to consider that outrage is what the OP probably wanted.
I didn't see the posts before they were deleted, but outrage was simply ppl falling into "The Trap".
We must be looking at different threads.
I remain a card-carrying hardcore atheist, don't you worry about that.

Honestly, I don't see any censorship here at all.
Some of the threads are quite beyond any social standard and aren't moderated in any shape or form - besides silencing undersrandable reactions and effectively shielding the posters from the consequences of their actions. But. I don't think it's the members' job to "protect" a site from neonazis, cultists and hatred in general - it's the moderators' job to keep it in check, for example close threads. There is hardly any moderation here.

There was very little drama recently.
A number of the main disruptors are no longer there.

If you take a look at the members online or report a post, you will see who is there and who responds.
There is a lot of disturbing content, however. This site doesn't feel safe or "encourage open discussion".
