Would a reboot of 80's comedy Hi De Hi work in a modern audience?

Topic.

Big problem is that most of the original cast, apart from Ruth Madoc and Su Pollard, are dead now, but would it work?

For those who don't know it, it was a British comedy set in a Holiday Camp called Maplin's way back in the late 1950's/early 60's which ran for 9 series' way back in the early 80's.

Stars included Paul Shane, Sue Pollard, Ruth Madoc, Leslie Dwyer and Diane Holland.

Having watched it for years, I still call British Holiday Camps such as Butlins, "Hi De Hi" Holiday Camps, and even the staff at Butlins and Pontins still wear the coloured coats like they did in Hi De Hi.

Hi De Hi on Wikipedia.

It happens....at least on this side of the pond. Where I suspect Roseanne Barr would say, "Hell, yass!" :p

Though in her case- and her cast are all very much alive and back on television from the 80s and 90s. Picking right up where they left off.

But then so are agents Scully & Mulder. Some shows are worth bringing back.

Probably not, because I don't think that anybody goes to holiday camps any more, they are a thing of the past since the advent of budget/no frills airlines and package holidays. Thompsons replaced Butlins. The younger generations would not understand or relate to it.

I know people who still go to Butlins and the like. Some of my friends went away to one last month, and they're all in their early twenties.

I've never been to a holiday camp, because they don't appeal to me. Too many kids and most adults spend their evenings getting hammered.

We went to Camber Sands on the early 80's as I recall, was great, I'd definitely go again.

Have there been any British tv shows rebooted as such ?

You guys have sure had some real classics over the years. I'm still stoked that PBS finally is broadcasting season 7 of "Doc Martin".

There's talk of rebooting On the Buses, but there's the same problem there as well, majority of the original cast, apart from Anna "Olive" Karen, are dead, Stephen "Blakey" Lewis died towards the end of 2016 apparently, and according to the On the Buses Facebook page his last words were "I'll 'ave you Butler!" which was his catchphrase as Blakey.

Also, I don't know if you've ever seen it, but several years ago they tried to do an American version of Fawlty Towers, predictably it failed horribly.

In the UK, the analogue TV signal was turned off several years ago, the only way to watch TV now is digital, Sky, Virgin, Talk Talk etc.
