What's the best type of therapy to look for?

I'm looking to find a therapist to help me control my emotions and overcome some stuff in my life (work, friends, hobbies, etc) that's making me depressed. What would be the best type of therapy to search for? I've also heard from r/aspergers that ABA therapy is awful. Is this accurate?

ABA is based on invalid behavior theories that don't even work in animal training. ABA has scarred a lot of people for no reason. I wouldn't suggest it even as a last option.

A normal psychologist that is trained in working with children has helped me however if you have an autism specialist it's much better. Be careful about online session costs, sometimes they are very expensive.

That's a question to ask a medical professional. One thing for sure, what therapy that works on one individual is no guarantee they'll have the same experience with another.

IMHO, what matters most is the therapist, not which school they subscribe to. I've never met an AS specialist, but I think that most of them are just working blind, unable to imagine our reality. My good counselor was not highly trained, but she cared. I'd call her skill "remedial parenting." Also, the best school will vary between various expressions of the AS Spectrum and also according to which traumas life has thrown at you.
