What, in your view, is God about?

Nadador

Against the current
There's been a good thread here, asking whether or not we believe in "God". I thought it might be interesting to ask the next logical question: What do we think God is about?

For example, not for answering, explicitly: Are we made in God's image? Where is God? Of what is God made? Does God care about God's creations? At what level of interest? Does God judge us? What about? Does he play favourites? Is he the gatekeeper of the eternal, just a keeper [sans gate duty], or merely a resident? Are we part of him, or separate? How can we communicate with him? Should we? How can we ever know any of this? Should we?

Well, I'll go first. I have to admit I really wanna know why the Jews are God's chosen people. Why not me or all of us, I mean? I figure I'm just supposed to accept it. We are supposed to be made in His image. Sometimes this life seems like it's a big game and we're just the pawns. And other times I think this life is purgatory (or hell) and what we do here really does count - a lot. I don't believe we are judged until the "Big Day" and we always have a chance to be forgiven while we are here alive on earth. I believe God is the Big Kahuna and then there's His son Jesus and the Holy Spirit - so the Big Three. I mainly talk to Jesus since I figure God has a lot going on and if Jesus can't help me then He'll summon the Big Kahuna. Gotta tell you, I haven't talked to Jesus more than I have the last 3 months. And I actually just talk to Him like I'd be talking to any of you. I think we all have been given free will either to want God in our lives or not - He will accept us back at any time should we turn away from Him then change our minds (I believe). God doesn't want to force us into loving Him because then that wouldn't be real love. We have to make a choice to want him in our lives or not.

Oh man, I could write a textbook, and you want it summarized in 10000 characters or less? On the otherhand, why reinvent the wheel? Want some textbook references? Basically, my views are pretty conservative evangelical Christian.

god, (lowercase intended) is the force of creation, from which all things have sprung.

Good, evil, beauty, conflict. Mud, flowers, impatience and eternity.

Only we humans choose to bicker about it.

What is God about? Wow! That's a tough one! I think that depends on your belief structure. A lot of people believe that God is all powerful and the creator of everything. That God is in Heaven and watch's over all of us. That if we live a good life, we will go to Heaven to be with Him. That is a powerful belief structure, one that would be very hard to argue with. I certainly wouldn't. I believe what I believe, because it makes sense to me. Everybody should be able to believe what makes sense to them.

A reflection is merely a reflection, an image on a shiny surface, we see in it what we choose to see.

No, no, no. The mirror is going to reflect back what it sees. If a person "sees" what they want to see, that is in their own mind and not reality. The reality is what is facing you in the mirror whether you choose to accept it or not.

Stand in a room with no light, but full of mirrors. There is no reflection but you exist.

I thought this thread is about God, not physics. Oh, wait, same thing.

A mirror is merely a detection device. And even the purest reflection contains some distortion.
