What do I need to do to win my ssdi benefits?

I can't work due to my extreme SAD, PTSD, Aspergers and I don't have any insurance. I don't want to just sit and collect a check, but I seriously need help right now to pay for vocational therapies, medication, etc. I believe I can reach employable status in the near future. I need suggestions and advice. Do I need a lawyer? I would need an understanding one. I need an advocate for autism as an adult carried on from childhood. I don't have any family either. Please don't ignore me.

Yes, you do need a lawyer. I was on SSDI and the only reason I won during the first time around was due to having good legal council. Where do you live?

Try "Lonestar Legal Aid". They are the only legal help available in my area (Texas Gulf Coast), but they assist with all sorts of legal issues, including disability benefits. I'm going to be using them too, assuming I ever work up the nerve to try again with my own SSDI case...Good Luck!

Thanks, I will try them

Do you have a formal diagnosis for these things? (Don't forget school records or special education.)

If yes, look under your yellow pages for a disability lawyer. They normally don't charge, if they lose, and charge a percentage of your first benefits, if they win. (It is negligible and, in my experience, worth it.)

If no, have you applied for medical assistance? You can get a recommendation for ASD-trained counselors from Autism Society of Texas, which will, at least, help you to get counseling. (Stay away from general practice counselors that have no ASD experience!)

If they think that your condition is severe enough, they can provide the above attorneys the information that they need to pursue an SSDI claim.
