'Twas the '80s, baby—so fast forward.

It's probably not surprising that, as a child of the 1980s, I was never diagnosed as a child or teen. It took me 30+ more years to actively seek out someone who would evaluate me as an adult (a pain in the neck in my rural area), and that only after the separation from my spouse and years of still wondering about that missing puzzle piece.

Here I am, in my mid-40s and $4,000 in evaluation fees later, with an 8-week old diagnosis of autism, after having worn my Bipolar II, anxiety, and OCD diagnoses like a badge (all of which still stand as co-occurring conditions). It all feels a bit like adding another educational degree to my name or another color tag to that old general's uniform.

So, in short: Hello, everyone, children from the '80s or from any other multiverse.

Now I am off to work on the reimbursement for that disco-glitter-gold-dusted evaluation...
