TPP? (No, it has nothing to do with toilet paper on people's houses)

So,
I've been reading about this thing, the TPP, and was a little curious about what my friends on AC would have to say about it.

As a musician who does receive royalties, I would like to see pirating, torrents, peer to peer networks and, other undocumented, difficult to trace means of distributing copyrighted material stopped. Every pirated song, movie, TV show, book, script, etc.. takes a portion of someone's income from them - it is stealing form us even though we have no way of knowing who is stealing from us.

I do not want to see individuals censored online, I do not want private email to become public property, I want internet freedom for individuals but, something has to be done to reduce pirating via the internet.

I do not like the other regulations included in this bill, what of it has been released. We do not need more regulation on medicines, or other things that have been mentioned.

Overall I do not approve of this legislation but, i do approve of the anti online pirating measures in the bill.

I know I'm already being stalked constantly, I really don't want the idiots in the government openly bragging about it to me on top of everything else they're trying to screw up. I really hope it doesn't pass. I had a post edited elsewhere recently for "copyright infringement" and it was of a generic item that tons of people have mass-produced or figured out on their own. They might as well have told me not to draw a stick man in teaching somebody basic anatomy because XKCD is famous for stickmen and now nobody else is allowed to draw them. People are ridiculously high-strung over copyright to the point I'm waiting for somebody to trademark articles of speech like "the" so they can sue people who use it. I'm pretty free about my comic, I've even thought about putting it up as a torrent file for easy downloading for those who don't want to have to be online to read it, and I have a very simple rule of "share freely but no selling because I'm the only one to make money off my work", but I don't like the idea of a cop breaking down my door because I shared my own work.

If this crap passes I'm converting full on to Linux and other open-source stuff. Screw commercialism.

The thing that is freaking a lot of people out is the simple fact that we don't know most of what is in it.
Wealthy and powerful Democrats (especially our President) and Republicans are united in pushing this thing through, not-so-wealthy, not-so-powerful liberals and conservatives are uniting in being a bit freaked out about it.
Whenever it's a dichotomy of powerful against weak, I get nervous.

No worries, I made a copyright notice! A writer I admire is best friends with a lawyer, so I paid close attention to her copyright so I could get mine right. She likes to make her series free too.
With absolutely no blasted DRM rights attached to it. Nothing worse than being called a pirate because Windows crashed for the thousandth time and you tried to copy your digital stuff instead of buying a new copy every single time.

For those that need to be more territorial, I try to do link backs and no reposts. (If it's not something meant to be embedded, like a YouTube video or something.) I'm not even comfortable having a song as background music on my site if it isn't provided by one of those stock websites where it's free for commercial use, and I'm particularly paranoid about using anything for a reference when drawing that isn't marked safely.

Quid Pro Quo. What are we (US) getting and giving away, versus what are they (Pacific Rim Nations) getting and giving away?

We have a rather vague idea of what Americans stand to gain and/or lose from such legislation. Biased explanations which appear to be drawn along the usual lines, corporate interests versus organized labor. With the rest of us largely outside such considerations.

Frankly I'd be more interested in what the consensus of the 11 Pacific Rim nations may be in terms of what they stand to gain or lose. And equally if terms and conditions existed obliging these nations to abide by a trade agreement to level the playing field once and for all. A commerce concern the US has continuously pursued for good reason, given all merciless protectionist policies of most of the world. But would such an agreement truly level the playing field, or is it really just a feeble attempt to level the playing field in very small increments, relying mostly on good intentions and long-range plans?

I could definitely see how in the short run this could negatively impact domestic labor and increase outsourcing. But I could also see long term benefits of the potential for a true balance of trade. Something we've never really had.

That said, the cynic in me questions the very idea of China abiding 100% to such a trade agreement. They practice capitalism, but it's not in their creed. Neither is the concept of fair trade. They're ruthless pragmatists. A consideration which forces me to question the viability of such legislation. And if they really were to abide by such an agreement, what in God's name did we really give away to attain such an incredible concession from China?

I guess I'm more skeptical about it actually working than I am in whether it would pass and be signed into law. Unless of course the legislation's true functionality is buried under so many pages of minutia the taxpayer either won't read, or won't be able to find. More commonly referred to as "business as usual".

Deductive logic: If anything, I'd focus on exactly why Barack Obama wants this.

And they have some amazing storage capacity if they really did hijack a ton of American traffic for fifteen minutes some months ago. I miss the days when I only knew China as the wonderful creators of my little cream cheese and crab wontons.

Sigh! I am familar with him normally we would be opponents, nut the evil corporate stuff being done makes me want to throw up. I don't know who is left to vote for both parties are riddled with this corruption it is destroying America. Where are they finding more jobs to ship out Americas economy is all ready collapsing.

This is why christian virtue is required for a strong economy, you need to look ahead for long term mutual benefit, any fool can see shipping out jobs will drain the market permanently, in the long run they will lose massive amounts of money in lost sales.
