Support services for savants??

MROSS

Well-Known Member
Hello,

What are specific support services for savants skilled in music, technologies, and the arts?

Trusted advisors/advocates not only assist savants in managing business-related agendas, but also assist with general tasks of independent living; as trusted family members may not be able to assist fully.

Specific tasks on independent living involve the presence of "third party" advisors involving complex health and medical issues, purchasing a vehicle, understanding, and filling-out paperwork, and property transactions e.g., rental issues.

What specific agencies coordinate support services for savants? Are there any agencies in the United States? I live in proximity to the SF Bay Area.

Thank-you.

Support services exist for people on the spectrum of all levels of support needs, no matter if we are savants or not.

In your area, contact your local chapter of The Arc.
Ask if they have an "Autism NOW Center."
If not, find out which chapter of The Arc nearest you has one.

The Arc has autism support staff which helps me with independent living skills, errands, doc visits, financial planning concerns, taxes, speech loss/AAC, lots of things.

Best success!

Hello,

What are other examples of support services? Are there agencies that specialize in assisting savants? What are examples from the UK?

Thank-you

Sorry MRoss, I am not in the UK.

Being a savant (or not), having splinter skills, (or not), or unique talents are all separate from one's level of support needs in varying situations.

Agencies do not ask if one is a savant. Agencies ask which specific supports and accommodations you feel you need in your life, where your challenges are, what you struggle with. That way, appropriate supports can be put in place.

I wish you good support for your challenges!
