Starlink vs. Fiber Optics

If you need stability, I'd consider fiber internet. Anything running along the ground if and where available, but in rural areas I know this isn't always an option. Check prices and speeds before making a decision. If it's cheaper to switch to fiber though I'd consider going that route.

I'm using 5G internet in a city area, close to the ground but wireless, haven't had any major issues in about 3 years though. Spectrum installed a fiber network in the apartment complex I live at, but so far my 5G internet connection has been reliable.

I am in a campground in heavy rain and wind surrounded by tall trees and hating my Starlink right now.

I was talking to the person who came to repair my a/c today. He said he was on Starlink, but that our electric company is putting in fiber optics which might be available at the end of this year.

I said I would give serious consideration to switching because Starlink is so expensive.

His reply: Yes, but when the power goes out (which it does here post-hurricane for extended periods of time, days to weeks) he says he gets his generator going and Starlink provides uninterrupted service.

If you’re dependent on your electric provider for your internet connection, you’re out of luck.

Would you have internet in the campground if you subscribed to a fiber optic provider?

My electric is out right now. For the past 45 minutes there has been the most violent electric storm going on outside.

I’m running off my cell phone hotspot.
