A SPECIALIST yoga workshop in Stroud will teach how meditation and mindfulness can benefit people living with autism.

A special two-day course is being organised by community organisation Special Yoga Works on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 of March.

It will be specifically tailored for people in the community who work with people with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) such as carers, as well as young people with autism themselves.

Dr Lucy Arnsby-Wilson, a clinical psychologist and Yoga therapist, will aim to give participants an understanding of how the benefits of yoga can bring balance to people.

“During the two days we will learn how to bring our own and our student’s bodies into balance,” she said.

“Together we will review and experience practices beneficial for restoring resilience, health and well-being.

“Students will be offered practices to deeply nourish and nurture themselves and their students.

“We will be drawing together ancient wisdom from yoga practices with current neuroscience findings.”

Dr Arnsby-Wilson, who has more than 18 years’ experience in the profession, will also offer an additional one-on-one consultation and personal support.

This can be for people’s own yoga practice or thinking about the young people they support.

Additionally, each participant will be offered extensive additional course materials, with pre and post course listening and reading practices to deepen the students learning should they wish to.

The course runs from 9am till 5pm each day. The yoga studio location is yet to be confirmed.

It will cost £300 for the two days or £250 early bird before the end of January. There is a £200 non-refundable deposit to secure a place.

This price includes a comprehensive course manual and access to an extensive range of further study materials.

Special Yoga Works is a co-operative of practitioners who are dedicated to offering Yoga and Meditation to babies, children and adults of all abilities.
