SPECCIE'S versus NT's Way of Thinking.

Neurotypicals generally only think in black & white

Something's either THIS WAY or THAT WAY

Myself, a 'Speccie' (on the Spectrum) I always SEE GREY

I always see a solution in the middle, neither black or white.

Therefore, my mind is constantly on overdrive, balancing NT's left or right thoughts whilst I argue my GREY opinions.

ITS EXTREMELY NECESSARY FOR ME. THINKING ON MY FEET IS TIRING!

I don't think this is a NT/ND thing. I think it is entirely individual. I've met a lot of people that fall into both "black or white" and "everything grey" categories, presumably most of them NT.

I really think it has more to do with how people were taught to think and whether they've been indoctrinated to (or chosen) a particular world view.

I agree with you, Wight. It's an individual response to issues, conflicts, and problems. NTs in the judicial system (attorneys, judges, etc.) and the legislative system (Congressmen) definitely see the gray areas. In fact, most of the legal and legislative battles revolve around the gray areas.

For me, some things are "black & white." Rape is always wrong, for instance, and not justified in any context.

Other things can be determined by their context. Deception, stealing and killing are staples in a "hot" war (probably in a "cold" war, too).

It's a mix on my end, depending on how much data and exposure I have on any given subject and other conditions. I can be Darth Vader rigid in my views or the opposite of depending on what it is, and I doubt (contrary to the myths being spread) that it's limited to the ASD population either from what I've heard and seen.

I can also bet there are some really sharp individuals out there who are either-or thanks to life experiences, so intelligence isn't always a factor either.

In my heart I'd like to perceive everything in black and white.

However my head knows there are 256 shades of grey in between.

when discussing topics i like to start with black and white, clear principles that are unemotional and in which i'm not invested,
through discussion and fact discovery i evolve to somewhere in the grey scale

if you depart from black and white you know how you got to grey,
the other way round is harder just because if you start with personal/emotional position in which you are invested or that you identify with on a personal level, it is much harder to get to an objective conclusion in a fast and efficient way
