Song lyrics meanings

I always have trouble understanding song lyrics meanings. Or what a song is about, unless it is really obvious.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it a autism thing?

Lack of understanding something, everyone else can understand right away.

Most of the songs I like tell a story.
Won a couple of CDs once. One was of classic Kiwi pop songs, the other was, if I remember right, a Rihanna CD. Couldn't understand a single song on it — lyrics seemed totally random and didn't make any sense — so I sold it. The buyer was surprised I didn't like it.

There might be something about it. I love to listen to music, however it isn't very lyrical... mostly electronic music (drum and bass, trance), guitar or similar. Songs with lyrics just don't cut it.

Some songs I can understand (such as "Never again" by Nickleback).

Others, however, I have to google if I want to find out the meaning.

In a notable example of listening to songs with a story, I remember listening to music by an Italian Symphonic Power Metal band called Rhapsody/Rhapsody-Of-Fire and - if the music on their albums was listened to in the right order - it told a long but interesting fantasy tale called the "Emerald Sword Saga".
You can read the story here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emerald_Sword_Saga

Haha! Oh, yes! My husband makes fun of me for this. I listen more for the melody and how the lyrics are sung with the music. I'm oblivious to what they are about unless I'm really listening. I find that I end up liking the song more when I understand it.
