Son and I had a talk tonight

Youngest son and I had a talk tonight and he is looking toward to it, work in the shop area at the towing yard I co own with my two older brothers. I already had the talk with my brothers about it and they are on board with it. We have the right employee to work with him, his name is Tim and he has autism. Hired him a month ago and had a talk with him on this as well. Said he is for it, he likes to mentor and help kids with Asperger's and autism mentoring them. He does encourage them and I see being good to him teaching him how to work on them. Good thing is my youngest son is a quick learner putting the full effort into it soaking the info in for being a 15 year old. Going to start next week Monday after school

That's a perfect age for the lad to start learning a trade, I used to train apprentices many years ago. At that age they still learn things fast, it's only a few years down the track and he'll have other things on his mind and will be nowhere near as focused.

Agree with you fully. My own parents actually were both Highschool teachers and they always said that about that age the students that are trade inclined should be given more opportunities to start into it then. No need forcing them through an academic stream from age 15-18 that they have no interest in anyways.

Yes it is great to get a broad education but at that age it's really lost on the person if they aren't interested. Better to get out, get working and established, and then get some academic appreciation if interested.

He is a good kid that keeps his grades up in school and I do not have to ask him to do anything at all. He does the chores without being told including his homework if he has any to do. He is growing up becoming a responsible young man making the right choices

Most kids are, but once they get to 17 and 18 their social standing starts becoming much more important to them and they start becoming more interested in the world they live in. For me it was fast cars, girls and surfing. And with that comes an emotional rollercoaster ride. If you can get them started on a trade before then they pick up on things much more quickly.

That's cool! Congrats to your son on the new job! It's good too that he has support at work and people who understand him. It can be difficult for us out there...

It sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders. Since he is a hard-worker at school, I bet he will really enjoy the working in the shop!

I wish you and your son all the best in your future endeavors.
