Socializing within special interest

I had no idea at the time I was autistic, just liked chatting with the reps. they liked chatting with me. I really influenced them and how their employers used my ideas.to improve their business.

why can't nt's appreciate our enthusiasm?
For the same reason you wouldn't appreciate them expressing enthusiasm while you were attending a funeral for a loved one. Expressing enthusiasm at the right time and place is always welcome while expressing enthusiasm when it is inappropriate is frowned upon.

If they experienced some of that they would be much happier people.
Most normal people I know get enthusiastic and are generally much happier than autistic people.

Special interest groups embrace wider range of people.

I've socialized within interest groups, AND i found even more accepting was to organize those groups myself. Everyone clamors to be friends with an organizer. It's a combination of appreciation, and similar interests. No need to mask, just come as you are, quirks, neuro-diversities etc etc.

When I serve as an organizer, I have one stated rule: This is a group where everyone will be mixing with everyone, no little clusters... Full acceptance of others where ever they may be, personality wise, age or appearance. I only had to dismiss one person from my group when they didn't like the appearance (weight) of a participant and said they wouldn't be mixing with people like 'that'. I said that is correct you will not, you cannot attend my groups. It was awkward but important to enforce that.

Simple fact, if you are accepted embraced as is, anxiety is greatly reduced.

The only group I would form is fellow physics followers blown away how many like my physics thread. Was always too self conscious to join group Thinking other members would be university educated. So kept my interest to myself until I joined this forum.

When we lived in Mexico, someone did make such a group. People attended. My husband loved it. They went out for lunch once a month and talked Science Physics etc.

Would be great Perimeter institute is not that far away, could attend lectures, not sure if wife would enjoy.
