Setting photos to private on social media

Hi all.

Due to having a few problems regarding photos of myself in costume from events such as Halloween and Comic Con on Facebook being posted without my consent and being insulted about them, short of deleting all my pictures which I've done for some of the more personal ones, how can I make my pictures private or only available to select people on my friends list?

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it :)

The first link is a little "old" but covers
a lot, and the print is big enough to read.
It wasn't too hard to read.
