Just joined so wanted to say hi
I'm a 58 year old female and today I had part one of my autism assessment via video link. I think it went well despite me being overwhelmed with anxiety. I had my partner of 30 years with me and they asked him questions about various things.
But now I am over thinking everything and doubting myself.
The doctor was very nice and at the end said it was clear I had social anxiety but no comment on anything else.My next appointment will be to go more into my childhood.I have no living parents aunts uncles etc for them to discuss what I was like so I had/have to just give my version of how it was.
Just worried this won't be enough to get an accurate diagnosis.
Any input welcome and Thankyou.

Hello and warm welcome to the forum :)

First try to RELAX  try to not over think and worry so much about what if and so on and most defently stopp youre over thinking and second guess and dought youre self. Let this take the time it needs and wait and see what the evaluation comes up with.

Second STOP comparing youre self to any others (incl in here) as you CANT compare youre self to anyone else . Any of this NP = neurological psychological diagnosis is highly individual in the first place. Then you also have to add in both gender and also the level of said ASD and last also the posibility of added co morbid diagnosis to ASD.

And last DONT get to stuck with you might have ASD it can be other diagnosis / multible ( Like me ) or just anxiety you need to try to have an open mind to this.

Hi and welcome i had a late diagnosis as a female it was a struggle to have my Autism recognised, good luck

Hi and welcome. I hope all goes well, but also, if you feel you are somewhat autistic you can use this site and other resources to help yourself with strategies that may fit for you, and to talk with others and read the threads, and post your own. You don't need to be diagnosed to do this, and plenty of us aren't.

Diagnosis is tough for women in particular, historically there has been bias towards diagnosis of males written into the diagnostic terms, this is now understood and research is ongoing on the different ways autism shows itself in those socialised as women. Take a look at Jessica Kingsley publishers catalogue for texts by women with Autism and clinicians about this.

Hello and welcome!

You are justified in feeling anxious about your assessment. After all you have a lot riding on the outcome. The important thing is to remain calm. An assessment of this type is not a pass or fail proposition. Its about finding out what the facts are so that you can get whatever help you need. Just be yourself and answer the questions as honestly as you can. You can do it!

Meanwhile if you need to talk this community is friendly and helpful. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. I hope you make lots of new friends here. Happy trails!
