British comedy legend Ken Dodd has passed away, aged 90, and just two days after marrying his partner of 40 years Anne Jones.

Ken Dodd - easily recognizable by his unruly hair, protruding teeth and tickling stick - was a stand-up comedian, singer-songwriter and actor of theater, television and films; his roles including Malvolio in William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night on stage in Liverpool in 1971; a cameo role of 'The Tollmaster' in the 1987 Doctor Who story Delta and the Bannermen and as Yorick (in silent flashback) in Kenneth Branagh's film version of Shakespeare's Hamlet in 1996.

In the 1960s his fame in the UK was such that he rivalled the Beatles as a household name, with his recording of "Tears" being the UK's third-best-selling single of the 1960s and also the biggest UK hit single of 1965, selling over 1.5 million copies in the UK alone. His records have sold millions worldwide.

He was knighted at the New Year Honours in 2017 for for services to entertainment and charity. He was previously doing a 2018 tour with The Ken Dodd Happiness Show before pulling out due to health issues.
