Researching Aspergers, Autism and High Functioning Autism

Hello I am looking into researching aspergers, autism and high functioning autism and would like to ask if anyone has any information on the type of research that can be done, what qualifications are needed and also any organisations/ universities that would be relevant. I live in the UK so advice concerning that particular country would be great though I'm interested to hear from anyone anywhere as to what sort of research is going on. It is likely I have many years of study to get where I want to be and with so many educational courses available it seems like it would be easy to make the wrong choices.

From what I've read on the forums, diagnosis of girls and women with high functioning autism is the biggest problem ,after that is older men with high functioning autism .

There is a member researching autism at George Washington University, in I think Washington DC ,Think it depends on which area you research if it's DNA it's probably biochemistry ,neurology ,if it's diagnosis a psychology degree and neurology again .

Type in universities or organisations researching autism in UK there are surprisingly quite a few
