Planned Holidays/Vacations

Does anyone have any planned holidays/vacations coming up?

Myself & my wife are going to a cabin in Wales in a weeks time and it’s definitely been a long time coming!

We have lots of stuff planned, BBQ’s, hot tub, castle visits, caving…

Where’s everyone headed to at some point in the near future? Much needed reset?

Goodness, I need a vacation, so badly. I was going to visit Southern Oregon this month, but my father got sick.

I was thinking of taking my daughter on a day trip down to Salem. We might ride the Amtrak down to visit the capitol building, and maybe windowshop in the area.

Oh gosh, but what I really need is coast or mountains.

A cabin in the woods, in the fall. What I have planned is almost nothing. I will meet some cool people, and otherwise hibernate. Enjoy simple walks in my solitude, and luxuriate in the quiet of the house. I've never been one who likes planning unless necessary. Plus, any childhood visit with my grandparents involved every detail being mapped out. I hated that. Expectations and possibilities? Yes. But, personally, I like getaways to be open with low obligation. Then my mind can play.

My wife and I are planning a 3,000 mile road trip to the east coast where my wife grew up. First to the Outer Banks then to the north end of New York. I think it will be fun and relaxing for my wife as she will get to visit with her family and friends, but it will be very stressful for me, due to my crippling social anxiety.

My best vacation took place a few years ago to the Sequoia National Forest. Solitude in the middle of a giant forest is heaven for me.

Edit: oops, miscalculation; it's a 5,000 mile road trip, not 3,000.

In July I plan to take my MR2 to Washington where I want to see the new exhibits at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. Then I'll take Shenandoah's Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway from Front Royal, VA to Cherokee, NC. I'll hike to waterfalls, look at local crafts and listen to Appalacian music along the way.

Then in November I plan to get to Morocco's Anti-Atlas on a Geology outing. I am especially interested in getting to the Kem Kem beds near the Algerian border where large amounts of Spinosaur teeth are found in river bed deposits. I have an adventurous niece who I am treating to the trip.

For solitude I have enjoyed Backpacking or wilderness canoeing. Wilderness areas are my favorite. The Wind River or the Popo agie wilderness is spectacular. Trails start at 8,000 to 9,000 ft. elevation and go up from there. Canoe the Boundary Waters and one long portage will get you to lakes that you have all to yourself.
