I don't think we have it at present. Most importantly, we need a working AI named Mike and the ability to lob things at Earth when they cheese us off.Do you believe we have the technology needed to colonize the Moon?
The moon? No. Mars? Yes.Do you believe we have the technology needed to colonize the Moon?
I follow this topic closely. We do have the technology right now. It would be relatively "primitive"... maybe a bit dangerous, at times, but yes.Do you believe we have the technology needed to colonize the Moon?
"One of these days, Alice" is a tag line from a 1950s American sitcom. I've never seen the show but sometimes heard the phrase when I was growing up.I don't know why your title addresses us all as "Alice"?![]()
That's ok! I'm not the Mad Hatter, if that's what you thought. Did you think I was someone else?@Outdated
@Richelle-H
Thanks for the explanations. I had no idea that was a saying and was quite puzzled as to why everyone on the forum was seemingly being called "Alice" collectively.Being unaware of the cultural reference, I was way off base. But, I'm sure anyone familiar with the source of my own reference understands where it came from. @JudeB Sorry for the misunderstanding. Don't worry, I won't turn on the Bat signal.

It was many years ago now but I once saw an interesting plan for making Mars more habitable by detonating nuclear explosives in a series along a tectonic plate line to trigger volcanic activity. This would increase atmospheric density and create clouds and water.Moon is too abrasive for equipment space suits. First time ignorance was bliss.
I didn't think you REALLY were (he's fictional after all), but he was what came to mind when I saw everyone being addressed as Alice.That's ok! I'm not the Mad Hatter, if that's what you thought. Did you think I was someone else?
I think people want to do something like that because they want to test the limits of humanity and our scientific achievements, present and future. Does that make sense?As for the actual question of the thread, I'm not sure why people want to colonize the moon.![]()
I always though it was simply because we've already drastically overpopulated this planet and we've run out of room. Infinite growth within a finite space simply isn't possible.I think people want to do something like that because they want to test the limits of humanity and our scientific achievements, present and future. Does that make sense?
It would be a real waste of talent if you do not get an post secondary education.My favorite subject was science and my childhood was packed with spontaneous science experiments (eg. adding pollen to a jar of water as a child to see how much it takes to support the weight of a small toy, mixing orange juice with milk inside my own mouth to observe flavor differentiations as the chemical reaction between the lactose in the milk and the acid in the orange juice took place, taking seed pods and electric gadgets apart to see how they work and figure out why) but some things I just have to wonder if people are tampering with things we weren't really meant to (eg. firing rockets at distant planets, editing genes of living organisms).
Might be an observable instance in your part of the world but it's not a fact. Yes, population growth has slowed down a little in just the last 5 years but it hasn't stopped and is still expanding at almost 1%/year.Population issue is already self correcting. as us boomers pass and not being replaced.
