NT Showing Love

Hey everyone,

How do you know that a NT is showing you true love? What does that person do for you, how do you feel? Just trying to figure out if what I am receiving is true or just someone getting sorry for me.

What is "true love" to you? Do you mean unconditional love?

My experience has been that despite a few relationships over a lifetime, only my parents consistently demonstrated unconditional love towards me. And of course my pets (cat and dogs). With everyone else...there were always "strings attached".

I suppose if someone loved me for or in spite of my Aspie traits and behaviors, that might reflect a form of unconditional love. But that never happened with NT partners, although in every case at the time neither of us were aware of neurodiversity.

The only problem I see with your question that true love could have different meaning for different people. You would need to figure out what true love means to you, what you want for your relationship, is your mate meeting your expectations for your relationship and other things.

I dont know if u mean the kind of love that you would expect in a relationship/marriage or with a friend u know for years. If it means anything however, during my highschool years which were pretty hard considering i was akward and kept mostly to myself i had a NT friend who could see i wasnt comfortable around people and came to my defence when i was called out as wierd by other students or bullying attempts. Even in parties that we were both invited to, he would stick around me to keep me company even though he had no problems socializing with the others while i obviously did.

its been 3 years since i finished highschool and i easily consider him my best friend now, he is the only one i would go out to hang out with who wouldnt make me feel like an alien

Without getting inside their head to understand their thinking and motives, time is the only way to tell.
Don't rush. Love will last. Pity won't.
Of course there are different kinds of love, and different ways of expressing them.
Finally, aspies do have a tendancy to attribute 'love' when all that is intended is 'friendly'. Again, take your time. Time will tell.
