Non verbal adults communication

Hello all, just wondering if there are any no verbal adults here that are able to communicate through electronic devices. Forgive me if I word something wrong or offend anyone. I’m very new to learning about autism. I’ve only been exposed to it the last three years of his life.

My son Gabe is 8 and isn’t able to use talk board effectively yet. Just wondering if there are any pointers you guys and gals can give me to better communicate with him. We’re trying to implement sign language as well but his learning abilities are pretty low as of now.

Or you may not be able to help me in that respect but can explain to me what it was like or what it is like as a child to not be able to communicate.

Thanks
