"New Threads" column

What's with the New Threads column on the right (is it new in itself, as I've never noticed it before)? It's really annoying. I like the display wide as it's always been. I can manually hide the column by clicking the arrow, but I don't want to do that every day.

Besides, I always go to the New Posts page anyway so I'm going to see new threads whether they're in an annoying side display or not.
