Hey All:
I just joined site because I'm going through a very hard time: but that's for another thread (?)
I'm not an idiot - but I don't understand how to get started? Obviously, introduce myself. Of course, I know what a "post" is: but why is the only option for a "thread"? Does my first post begin a THREAD - and then any replies are part of that thread?

Hi an welcome to the forum.

Does my first post begin a THREAD - and then any replies are part of that thread?
Yes, that's how it works.

Go to any subsection of the forum and at the top of the topics list is where you can type the title of your new thread. Once you start typing in there then the box where you can write your message appears.

Welcome aboard :)
Congratulations on starting your first thread. A post you create is a thread.

Yes, this is correct.

If you "Post reply" in any existing thread, it will be just a post.

If you wanted to introduce yourself without starting a new thread, you could use this thread:

I am also a newbie and have discovered that if you have a question and post it in an existing (albeit related) thread, it will likely receive very little attention. I'm struggling with how to get my questions answered if the forum is attempting to minimize the number of threads that address the same topic.

We do try to keep the forum organized as best we can. Sometimes, the answers someone is looking for have already been given by forum members who have been answering questions for a long time here.

I would recommend starting a new thread if you cannot find your answer in threads that have already been made. If you have any problems or concerns in doing that, you are very welcome to PM staff. If you want to discuss a question you have that you are having trouble getting answers for, you can PM me and I will try to help.

Hi, welcome.

I had to learn those things too. The names of things was strange to me. To post something yourself without replying to someone else's message, you start a "thread". It just means you give your thought a title and in the large box you write your message. Now your message appears on a list but under the title you gave it.
