New Oxfordshire Asperger Support Service

Kingwood Aspiration

Active Member
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to raise awareness of a new Asperger support service within Oxfordshire. It's called Aspiration and is operated by Kingwood, a charity that provides support for people on the Autistic Spectrum.

Aspiration offers free short-term practical support for people aged 16 or over, who have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism, who live in Oxfordshire and are not entitled to or receiving any other support services.

We offer:

Advice, information and guidance on a range of issues. We can offer suggestions and signpost to specialist organisations where necessary. We also offer drop-in sessions for people who would prefer to receive advice in person.

Support that is specifically tailored to the individual's needs. We offer between 1 and 5 one-to-one sessions to discuss goals, strategies and solutions. We will support you to focus on one or two goals. These goals can be on a variety of topics including: employment, social skills, housing and benefits, and more.

Peer groups. We will be running support and advice groups on topics such as: an introduction to Asperger Syndrome and understanding how it affects you, Social Skills and Communication and Employment Skills.

How to access the service:

You can make an enquiry by email or phone. We then recommend an initial informal chat about what our service offers and if it is right for you. This can be done by email, text, Skype, in person or IM.

If you think the service can help, we will ask you to complete a referral form that further details what you would like support with. You can refer yourself or be referred by a third party, such as a parent or healthcare professional.

We will then arrange an in person meeting to further assess your needs and get a clearer picture of how we can help.

You will then be offered between 1-3 support sessions in which an action plan will be put into place to address the needs you have outlined. You can also choose to attend our support groups as well as your one-to-one sessions.

Important note: The service can offer short-term support interventions only. Unfortunately we do not have the provisions to provide on-going long-term support on a weekly basis. If you require this level of support, we suggest undergoing a Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) assessment, which can be arranged via your local council's Social and Community Services Team.

Welcome :)

Thank you for showing an interest. Do you by any chance have a website that our members might be able to access?

Hi, I'm just a few miles away, in Bucks. Is this service only for Oxon residents or might I be eligible? Thank you
