Neophilia and “fixated interests”

I’m wondering if eating habits fall into the category of clinically highly restrictive, fixated interests.

That’s what my eating habits feel like. There is no weight management component to the restriction and fixation. It’s just a desire to eat only very specific things and a revulsion to anything else.

Perhaps, that’s a different aspect of ASD altogether though, motivated by sensory aversion. Not really sure.

@Rodafina , good point, sometimes l eat to satisfy sensory needs such as crunchy, creamy, sour. l love buttermilk, the tangy taste, it's creamy also.

l liked stain glass as a hobby, because skill was required in scoring the glass, then soldering the parts together, and even drawing out the pattern was very engaging. You can spend hours doing it.

l love ballet class, because it's me against my body trying to do difficult exercises that require 100% body awareness,. But it's only a hour class, so it's a short time but a special interest.

Another special interest, is researching anything that l need to make a decision on, which l spend enormous amounts of daily time on, to help me make better choices in purchases, healthcare, etc.

I'm at a crisis now where food is concerned. In buying the same groceries every month, I have finally reached a point where about 90% of what I buy no longer interests me in eating. The same things I have methodically purchased for well....decades.

This upcoming month's grocery shopping is not going to be easy. I can no longer buy food I'm not interested in eating. And yet no matter what, it still has to be contained to my food budget.

I hate it when that happens.

I gave myself multiple vitamin deficiencies based on my restrictive food interests. I am highly focused on fixing that now.

I tend to eat on what I can afford as opposed to what's indisputably "healthy" for me to eat. So I've taken multi-vitamins my entire adult life.

Reminds me of discussing such issues with my cousin some time back. When I used to term "food-budget", she didn't seem to understand the concept. She successfully does "Weight Watchers", though clearly it's likely outside my own budget. Go figure.

Getting bored of food? Could be an issue in the long run.

But then a loss in weight hasn't hurt me either.
