Hello, my name is Kristen. I am a self-diagnosed Aspie awaiting confirmation by a psychologist. My little brother (9) was diagnosed with Asperger's about 2 years ago. As I learned more about this disorder, I became more aware of the traits in myself. My fiance has also said that he has suspected for a long time. I want to the diagnosis because it is a relief to be able to put a name to my issues- almost like I can blame my behavior on something. But I am nervous because I don't want it to impact my career. I have just graduated with my Associate's degree in Nursing. I have always been very academically inclined. I am continuing my education this fall. Basically, I got on here to read about others like me. As many of you know, it can be difficult to not be understood. It's very lonely. Hopefully, I can read and and find some good tips for myself and my fiance. :)

Hi, and welcome to AC!

It's good to hear that you will continue pursuing your studies. Concentration issues seem to be quite usual among us - or maybe you've had those too, but it's great either way.
I hope you find lots of interesting discussions in here to take part, and will enjoy your stay.

Hi Kristen,There is no limitation in the medical field for Aspergers that I am aware of. I am an EMT, and I think it is helpful to have Aspergers for this. I am able to triage and follow thru without my emotions interfering. You might not want to advertize it, but you can use what you know to your advantage.
Good Luck.

@peace- thanks. I think that is why I do nursing well. I can seperate from my emotions at work. Unfortunately, some cases I " take home." I have a great respect for EMTs :) keep up the good work

Thank you. Actually I can concentrate on my studies very well because I enjoy learning. :) I have never had any concentration issues academically. I think i am lacking The ADHD.
