Medical Question about Dog

My dogs' last bowel movement was yesterday. This might not sound like a big deal, but it is really unusual for him; he usually has several a day. He also has been uninterested in food, but that is normal for him: he's been like that as long as I've known him: super super picky.

Assuming it doesn't resolve itself, how long do you think I should wait before becoming worried about his lack of bowel movement?

Perhaps give it a day. In the interim, you might encourage things along by increasing exercise by more vigorous walks off your home property, and perhaps some active ball-playing. You may also take the dog to visit areas he/she usually favors eliminating in. Lots of fascinating scents might just remind the dog to do his/her duty right in that area. ;)

Outright food refusal, lethargy, and vomiting would suggest a vet trip.

Positive thoughts and vibes for a very productive walk! Please update if you can, to let us know how your dear dog is doing. :)

Good news: he has finally had a bowel movement.
And I roasted a whole chicken and am mixing pieces in with his food to encourage him to eat it, and it is working.

I am glad to hear that. Our children are all gone and have kids of their own, so our dogs are our babies. We get very stressed when one of them is sick.
