Looking for others who get it

Welcome 1ofakind.

I am an older person that was diagnosed late in life also.
Now in mid-sixties, the diagnosis came in mid-fifties.
I found this forum shortly after and have been here ever since.
I've gotten to the point that I rely just on interacting with others here too. :)
Thank you. It is so nice to be able to connect with another older female on the spectrum. I am in my late fifties and most resources are geared toward children or young adults which often makes me feel left out.

My previous reply to you showed the wrong emoji once posted (Was different on my phone). I tried to edit it, but couldn't. I apologize for any confusion.

The ADA only gets you the support that you’re entitled to if you work for a very large corporation. Smaller companies cannot afford the cost of accommodations.

The sad thing is that I worked for a large school district that is federally mandated to provide ADA support. But I saw first hand how, too often, organizations or people with big money are not held accountable to justice (It can be ruthless). After I left, I saw the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) was investigating them due to a pattern in how they were treating employees with disabilities. The OCR has also been on them for their lack of appropriate support for students. Unfortunately too few have the knowledge and resources to endure the legal abuse and help change the system. Just my opinion.

Thank you so much. I'm still learning the technicalities of how this forum works and trying to read people's stories to get a feel for things. But it has been so validating for me already to see others with similar challenges, experiences, communication styles, sensitivities, etc. I have felt so alone! I wish I had found this forum years ago.
