Life Without Social Media

Depends how you define it. It is a much more focused group. XFace et al represent society at large.

Sounds like 1987 and earlier. De ja vu....lol.

That year or maybe a year later I joined a DOS version of the Prodigy online service.

:smilecat: Much lolling! :-) 100 points! We also would have accepted "MyFace" and "SpaceBook" :-)

I suppose you could count forums as social media. But I agree, this is more focused on here and I'm not going to get spammed with rubbish like videos on Space Heaters that were developed by two mysterious aviation engineers, who were so gosh darned upset that the energy companies make so much money that they invented a (£20) cheap space heater that uses "almost zero" energy, that they will sell for the low, low price of £120 for a time limited offer, direct to me as they had to go into hiding because the "they" are after them and want to ban the technology...

This forum is exactly the right level of social media for me :-)

Pretty sure I heard about "SpaceBook" on an episode of DBZ Abridged in the past, as well as "Space Twitter".
The "MockBusters" of social media! Wouldn't it be fun to create one for real and see how many unsuspecting people sign up? :smilecat: A bit like when unsuspecting grand parents pick up "Alien Vs Extraterrestrial Hunter" or "Titanic 2 The Sequel" on DVD! You might make a few million, you never know! :smilecat:

I used to always say that and I never read it anywhere 'myface'
It just came in my brain.
MySpace was better than Facebook ever was, have no friends well there is always Tom. And it was just a simpler format and nothing was ever shoved down your throat and things were not blocked or filtered etc but I guess it changes over time.
And I loved how you could put music on your profile.
But Tom escaped into the world of travel photography. And he got out and is lucky.
Not many people like Mark zungberg or whatever his name is because Facebook can be hell and so addictive too.

Isn't this website classed as social media?
(Or are you just referring to the main ones like Facebook and X/Twitter?)
I do not think it is social media.
I think like Facebook, instagram, Twitter, tiktok, tumblr, pinterest.
Youtube is a streaming platform like I guess Spotify.
This is an internet forum very old skool, a lot like before facebook and things went berserk, people went on chatting forums and searched the Web and played games on gaming sites.
