Kraken

My two obsessions my entire life have been books and marine life, so imagine my delight at hearing about a video capture of a live kraken! Sure, dead ones have washed ashore, but this is the first time they got live footage of one. Have any of you watched the documentary? We don't get the US discovery channel, so I have yet to see it.

I wasn't aware they captured footage of a live one. But then again, I'm not really that big into animals, let alone aquatic life. However, squids and other cephalopods are among animals I think are awesome. So this thread caught my attention.

I got hold of the documentary and watched this morning. It still baffles me that we hadn't seen them alive before, especially since we are able to send stuff to mars but not to the bottom of the ocean to capture all kinds of aquatic life.

Awesome. I can't wait to watch it. Mollusks are really amazing creatures. I've heard before that the deep ocean is the last place on earth that is unexplored. We know more about the moon than we do about our own oceans.

The Kraken is an amazing creature - not that I'd like to be within reach of its tentacles, mind you.

The first time I'd ever come across it was from a picture I saw at The Deep when I was in Year 4 at school and on a trip, which showed a giant octopus with ruby-like eyes attacking a ship. Beyond that, I saw a version of the Kraken from Greek mythology that showed it looking like a giant squid while I've also seem similar creatures in It came from beneath the sea and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
